Okay, just kidding. Soylent Green isn’t an option…yet. But if you haven’t seen this 1973 cult classic you’ve got to get it. It takes place in 2022 in a time when overcrowding, pollution, and scarce resources (hey, isn’t that happening now?) have everyone scrambling for food and space. It’s a pretty bleak view of the future.
Charlton Heston plays a policeman in Manhattan trying to solve a murder. His roommate (necessary in this overcrowded world) is Edward G. Robinson (this is, by the way, Robinson’s last movie) who keeps trying to tell Heston about a better time in the world before we used up all the resources. Joseph Cotton also appears. Soylent Green is a great answer to the “final resting place” question. A great ending.
