Shrouds

tombstone“Look beautiful – in the last thing you’ll ever wear”.  This is Eco-Shroudage’s motto.  Very clever.

Traditionally a shroud was any simple piece of cloth used to wrap the body in prior to burial.  I have located two companies who offer burial shrouds.  Both make them out of natural materials.  Your choice depends on your preferences.

Eco-Shroudage (www.kinkaraco.com) creates beautiful natural linen shrouds for use in green burials, either with or without a coffin.  They also offer colored and woven shrouds and you can order them with linings into which can be tucked herbs, flower petals, etc.  A small linen bag can be included as well.  This is used to place pictures and other mementos to be buried with the deceased.  I also love the Bellecouche woolen shrouds.  They look warm and cozy and the leafshroud is designed to be used instead of a coffin for both woodland and traditional burials.  The leaf is “an eloquent metaphor for the changing seasons of our lives”.  www.bellacouche.com
