Planting Mix
The final product is similar to Promession but the process is not. Your gardening friends will love this. Floramorial, a company based in Kankakee, Illinois transforms cremation ash into a plant food using horticultural science. This company started because of a statement from Marge Strand, a woman dying of cancer, which was “Turn me into a rosebush”. After her death, her husband started to work on fulfilling that wish. He discovered that cremation ash was primarily calcium (rock) phosphate, which would not support plant life. So the next step was to develop a method of making the ash into a viable plant food. Although the chemistry part of this is beyond me, I include it here for you curious scientific types.
Frank Strand, who has a background in electrochemistry started to search for a way to make rock phosphate soluble without having to use potentially dangerous high temperatures or industrial sulfuric acid, which is the normal process for converting rock phosphate into soluble plant food. He found the solution to by using a catalyst which released phosphorous from its calcium bond to become plant food.
That early Floramorial planting medium was used to nourish a rosebush on the grounds of a church where Marge worshiped years ago. The Floramorial soil contains both Marge’s and her mother’s ashes.
Here’s how is works; The Florimorial people send a container in which your family send back to them the cremated ashes of your loved one (pets can come too). They process the ashes and return the Florimorial mix back in a 6.5 gallon bucket identified with loved one’s name, bar coded for security, a Certificate of Authenticity, planting tips and suggestions, and a garden trowel and disposable gloves,
I really like this Floramorial idea as an answer to the “final resting place” question. I’m putting it on my personal short list.
I almost forgot; the prices: $395.00 for a one person, and $295.00 for pets.
